Everyone needs a hobby, right? Think of something you love to do, a way you connect with friends, or a favorite relaxing activity. At Van Products, we want to support groups in the wheelchair community that enable people to take part in these favorite hobbies. Recently we’ve written about Dancing on Wheels and a father son duo that has overcome Cerebral Palsy to complete Ironman races.
This week, we wanted to talk about a fall hobby many across North Carolina and the southeast love: hunting and fishing. The North Carolina Handicapped Sportsman group says that “Life is what you make it”, and it is organizations such as these that prove just how true that saying really is.
The North Carolina Handicapped Sportsman group is a non-profit organization that specializes in tailoring outdoors experiences to handicapped individuals. The group aims to improve the quality of life of these handicapped sportsmen by enabling them to get out and pursue their interests. It hosts events throughout the fall, such as hunting and fishing trips, and offers shooting by handicapped or for them by standing partners.
Social activities surrounding these outings are also set up, both to facilitate understanding and cooperation between able-bodied and handicapped and to encourage fellowship between participants. Events are hosted a couple of times each fall, but the community forum on the organization’s website lets members keep in touch year around. Take a look here for upcoming events [http://www.nchandicappedsportsmen.com/events.html]
We are glad that options such as these are available to the wheelchair-community and hope that we can help people keep life a moving experience, going anywhere at any time by supporting them and providing them with wheelchair accessible vans and trucks. Drop us a note to learn more about outdoors activities or handicap accessible vans we have to offer!
