Wheelchair Accessibility for Veterans: A Look at this Brave Group

November 11, 2010

Veterans, particularly those who return from their brave line of duty with disabilities, are a group that is near and dear to our hearts are Van Products.

Our good friend Johnny Holland is one of these courageous service men, and we are glad to have him as a support and inspiration example of someone who is highly involved in this community.

It is important to stay in the know about these groups of people and the particular challenges they face, so we’ve put together some information to let you know what the disabled Veterans community look like in the US.

Interesting Facts About Disabled Veterans

Purple Heart Veterans

The U.S. Census Bureau has released innumerable fascinating and insightful facts about our population, including some pertaining to military and disabled veterans in the U.S.  There are 23.2 million military veterans in the U.S, of which 1.8 million are women.  9.2 million veterans are over 65 years old, 1.9 million are younger than 35.

While there are more veterans from some eras than others, all of our major, contemporary foreign wars are represented, with 7.8 million of our current veterans having served during the Vietnam War, 5.2 million during the Gulf War, 2.8 million during the Korean War, and 2.6 during World War II.  Additionally, 6 million served during peacetime and an amazing 92,000 living veterans served through the entire era of World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam.

5.5 million veterans have a type of disability, 3.4 million of which have a directly service related disability.  Disabled military veterans are a big part of the disabled community that we aim to serve with our mobility and wheelchair-accessible vans.

We are proud that our handicap accessible vans are helping disabled veterans live exciting and fulfilling lives, through the use of wheelchair-accessible lifts, van conversions, and used wheelchair vans.

We’d love to figure out how we can best serve you as well, so get in touch! We look forward to hearing from you.
